The Prophet sent to the Samood people was Swaleh (or (Salih) who Was 6th in generation from Samood, and the crisis in their history is connected with the story of a wonderful she-camel.

Allah says: and to Samood We sent their brother Swaleh. He said: O my people, serve Allah, you have no god other than Him (Aaraf, 7:73). And remember when He made you successors after Aad and settled you in the land; you make mansions on its plains and hew out houses in the mountains. So remember Allah’s bounties and act not corruptly in the land, making mischief (Aaraf, 7:74). Surely I am a faithful Messenger to you, so keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. I ask of you no reward for it; my reward is surely with the Lord of the worlds (Shu’ara, 26:143-14).

They said: O Swaleh, you were among as a centre of our hopes before this. Do you forbid us to worship what our fathers worshipped? And surely we are in great doubt about that to which you call us (Hood 11:62). They said: you are only a deluded person. You are not but a mortal like ourselves, so bring a sign if you arc truthful (Shu’ara, 26: 153-154).

Swaleh said: O my people, this is Allah’s she-camel, a sign for you, so leave her to pasture on Allah’s earth and touch her not with evil, lest a near chastisement overtakes you (Hood, 11:64).

But they rejected the warning (Qamar, 4:23). They hamstrung the she-camel. So he (i.e. Swaleh) said: enjoy yourselves in your houses for three days. That is a promise not to be belied (Hood, 11:6).

The warning proved to be true. An earthquake seized them; and they were motionless bodies in their abodes (Aaraf, 7:78). Allah says: sure We sent upon them a single cry so they were like the dry fragments of trees, which the maker of an enclosure collects (Qamar, 54:31). And We saved Swaleh and those who believed with him by Mercy from Us from the disgrace of that day. Surely the Lord—He is the Strong, the Mighty (Hood, 11:66).

After the destruction of Samood, Prophet Swaleh and his followers migrated to Syria. In the Pennysula of Sinai there is still a Hill known as the “Hill of Prophet Swaleh” and it is said that this very Hill was the residence of Swaleh. (Tafheemul Quran, Volume II, P. 32, Note 74).

Thereafter there came on the scene one of the most famous monarchs of the Human History namely Nimrud. He was son of Kan’aan, the son of Adam, the son of Sam, the son of Prophet Nooh. He conquered Syria, Turkey and Iraq and established a big kingdom with its capital at Babylonia. He was very proud and declared himself to be the god of his people. He as well as all those under him became arrogant to Allah, and started worship of the heavenly bodies.
